Your head is a terrible office
Knowledge work arrives as an endless stream of stuff: emails, half-promises, ideas, errands. Held in the head, each one becomes an open loop that nags without ever telling you anything useful. Working memory holds about seven items, so the rest simply leak out as low-grade anxiety.
GTD starts from an unflattering assumption: your subconscious is a bad reminder system. It nags you about the watch repair at midnight, never as you cycle past the shop.
